There are many projects we run here at
DGS Mencap that do not receive core funding from local statutory
authorities and rely strictly on donations from trusts, local companies
and individuals. To maintain quality projects we need essential
funding. Below details the projects we currently run that require
ongoing funding and future projects we hope to receive funding for.
Dramarama
The Dramarama group has
been running for over three years and continues to be successful
and enjoyable for all involved. The group are developing in many
ways and enjoyed their packed full auditorium theatre performance
at the Mick Jagger Centre in November 2004. Further funding is required
for the project in 2006/2007 to enable the group to perform three
performances a year, increase in size and introduce dance to performances.
M-Connections
Our popular music band M-Connections
requires ongoing funding to kit the group with reliable equipment
to enable them to play in the local community, promoting the image
of learning disabilities and developing as an excellent music band.
Stepping Stone Project
The Stepping Stone project
has already begun within the office in Dartford training people
with learning disabilities to enable them to enter the workforce.
The scheme is currently a small-scale project providing training
opportunities to service users in a sheltered office environment.
Prior to employment, computer skills, office tasks and communications
skills will be broken down and taught in a way that will encourage
successful learning. Our aim is to increase the size of this project
enabling more service users to benefit and move on to fixed employment
in the wider society. When the Peppercorns project is up and running
in 2007, the Stepping Stone Project will move into the centre enabling
more space to benefit other service users. The project requires
vital funding and is one of DGS Mencap’s key development areas.
